In early July I bought myself a new pick-em-up and just for fun I’m trying to recall all of the “real truck” truck stuff I’ve done trucked this year.
Hauled 2 tons of rock w/ trailer
Hauled an additional 1 ton of rock w/ trailer
Haul empty boat trailer to lake, then haul empty jetski trailer to lake, haul boat back to farm. All for parents friends who were out of town and needed to get the boats off the water due to weather.
Full bed of grass clippings to the city compost pile.
Haul old truck to friends farm roughly 60 miles away for storin’.
Haul dirt bike and trailer ATV to the Black Hills and back.
Haul the now broken dirtbike chassis to the wash.
Haul 3 wheelers and dirtbike to parents acreage on various occasions.
I’ve taken it on a few different trips now where the truck wasn’t needed, but was nice to have for the space and weather capabilities.
Of course there were quite a few truckin things I did with my old truck, before new truck, and there’s generally a few atv outings in the winter, but for six months of ownership I’m happy with the amount of truckin the new truck has trucked.
And before anyone tries to shame me for livin that truck life, I still daily the soul sucking Cobalt, and ride the bikes every day I can. The truck sits most days of the week and I only drive it on the weekends, or when I need to actually haul something. Still though, if it wasn’t so damn expensive and trying to be conscious about climate change , you bet your but I’d daily it.

I would argue that you are being much worse to the environment by owning two vehicles when you really only need one.

Nice 600. Missing in my pic is an Xl600 road legal and a 250 w ork quad. Kinda of a Honda fan.
It’s hard to have toys without a truck. Wife and I each daily a truck. Fun cars don’t get a lot of use around here. And there is no reason to suffer through a nice suv when a truck is a suv with a bed.

I mean, i f we want to get technical here, I own five, plus the four motorcycles, and two atvs. Only four of those see regular use, and three are non functional.

Thanks! It’s actually getting a refreshing at the moment, painted engine, year appropriate plastics, polishing the tank, new seat cover which isn’t installed yet, it cleans up pretty good.
That’s a nice collection there. I’ve been working on getting my XR street legal, but the seller stopped working with me on acquiring the title (lesson learned, but still got a good deal). Finding a good frame has been a little tough, and convincing the wife to let me buy one even more so. Still though I’m hoping to have it streetable sometime next year.
I’m a bit of a Yamaha guy myself, not for any brand loyalty reasons, just that they always seem to have the best option no matter what I’m looking for. All of my offroad toys however have been Hondas (not pictured above is my 200x and ATC90), and contrary to every Honda out there every one I’ve owned has needed a rebuild and seems to be in a constant state of broken.

That seems like a big boat for a Tacoma. I’m sure it’s within the rating, but I wouldn’t want to tow that on a regular basis.

It’s not technicallllly within the rating. Manufacturer puts the boat weight at 4850, trailer manufacturer puts the trailer at 1800. Total package is 6,650 which is 250 over the limit....I’d call it good with a weight distribution hitch.
For the short haul to the ramp and 4Lo getting out of the water, I’d do it. The missus and the kids can take a second car to the lake.
I’d love to surprise the hell out of the people at the ramp hauling a 18' bowrider with a HD pickup.

For that kind of use yeah, that’d work. I’m used to hauling the boa t (20' aluminum fishing boat) at a minimum an hour to get to anywhere with decent fishing, and every year we haul it, 3 or 4 guys, plus a weeks worth of gear and spare fuel 12 hours up the interstate into Canada.
I’ve pulled loads at or near (or sometimes likely over) the limit and I don’t much care for i t. HD trucks, and even 1/2 tons are generally overkill in most situations, but it makes towing even medium loads over long distances so much more comfortable.

If you are near MI I can make you an almost free deal on mine. 1986 xl600 dual carbs. Runs and moves. It needs to get ridden more.
Use a 12:1 piston on your rebuild. It makes a huge difference on XRs.

Appreciate the offer, I’m in eastern South Dakota so probably a bit too far away. But out of curiosity , what kind of deal would that be?
It had some work done to it before I bought it and already had a flat top in it, no idea if it’s a 10.5:1 or a 12:1, but it was in good shape and I’m plenty happy with the power. All that happened this time around is I wasn’t tuned quite right for the elevation and carboned up a valve and lost compression.

Someday I’ll have a gas HD and an express cruiser. My current tow, door to in water is 30 mins, which includes stopping at the park entrance, getting through the invasive species line, prepping the boat, and waiting at the ramp. Total trip is less than 7 miles, all flat with the majority of it below 35 mph.
Just need 150K........

I was going to say $500 less your gas to come get it. Being so far away I would take a case of beer. I don’t have much into it. The guy I got it from wasn’t big enough to kick start it. It’s a beast. I mostly ride my cr250 or the mini bikes.
I live out in the sticks so shipping is a real pain.

If that’s a serious offer I’ll see if I can’t work something out, been wanting to take a good road trip anyhow. What part of Michigan are you in? Is the bike titled?

I’m serious. It has a MI clear title. Even has a shop manual. All of the lights work. It only needs air filter foam. An old guy had it since new.
My zip code is 49349. The bike isn’t going anywhere soon. It will only go to someone who will put it back into service. My email is blmsvcs@gmail.com. Oppo is the closest I get to social media.

I will absolutely take you up on that offer then, that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for and will save me a lot of troubles trying to title my XR. And I will %100 get it back in to service and ride the daylights out of it. I’ll see what I can do to find a time to travel over there and shoot you an email to see what works for you.
